In response to Kylian Mbappé’s complex situation at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the start of the transfer window, Didier Deschamps, the French national team coach, shared his perspective on Thursday.
Deschamps affirmed that even if the forward had been sidelined by PSG, it wouldn’t have influenced his decision to call him up to the national team.
« He would have joined us, that’s for sure, » the coach confirmed in an interview with L’Equipe. « We would have found solutions. It wouldn’t have replaced the competition, but we would have tried to compensate as much as possible. Kylian would have been with us. »
However, Deschamps stated that he doesn’t « get involved » in the internal negotiations between PSG and Mbappé. The situation was complicated, but it has normalized. « It’s great for the French national team, of course, but also good for the club and for him, » praised the French national team manager.
Deschamps also expressed no concerns about Mbappé’s form. « I don’t think there’s a risk of losing energy, » Deschamps noted. « To make Kylian lose his tranquility… Whoever manages to do that hasn’t been born yet. »
