Following his reintegration into Paris Saint-Germain’s squad, Kylian Mbappé (24 years old, 34 matches and 29 goals in Ligue 1 for the 2022-2023 season) must now adjust to the playing philosophy of his new coach, Luis Enrique, according to the insights provided by Frédéric Antonetti, a consultant at Canal+.
Despite Mbappé’s return, things are far from settled. In fact, it’s a fresh start for him, as the consultant highlights. The French forward might encounter challenges and will need to tailor his gameplay.
« Luis Enrique’s playing style means there’s very little space between the goalkeeper and the opposing defense. Hence, Mbappé won’t have the 30 or 40 meters he might find in the Champions League, » he explains.
« As a result, he will need to learn how to make runs into depth within tighter spaces. Although he has improved in combination play, he’ll still have to enhance that aspect. There are numerous questions. How will he adapt? » ponders the Canal Football Club consultant.
