Neymar was sold by PSG to Saudi Arabia last week, which has brought a financial relief to the club, according to The Athletic.
The sale of Neymar can be seen as positive news for Paris Saint-Germain on several fronts. The transfer has brought in between 90 and 110 million euros, including bonuses. Additionally, according to The Athletic, this departure also enables the club to retain Kylian Mbappé by freeing up financial resources.
The PSG is set to save a substantial amount, around 100 million euros, over the remaining four years of Neymar’s contract. Neymar was under contract until 2027. According to an internal source within the club, each remaining year of the Brazilian international’s contract was costing around 25 million euros.
Given the scrutiny of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, PSG has welcomed the departures of high earners like Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Sergio Ramos. The club’s wage bill has significantly decreased. Moreover, the proceeds from Neymar’s sale will provide PSG with the means to potentially sign Randal Kolo Muani and/or Bradley Barcola.
