La LFP Rejects the New Super League… and What About PSG?
The newly unveiled Super League format on Thursday, which is more open and notably free on television, has been officially rejected by the LFP through its president, Vincent Labrune. « The LFP unequivocally supports competitions organized by UEFA. Nothing can replace the legitimacy, credibility, and prestige of European competitions as they have been organized for over 60 years. »
Paris Saint-Germain has been an opponent of this project since 2021. According to the ECA (European Club Association), of which Nasser al-Khelaïfi is president, this new project has been widely condemned.
A source from the ECA, an organization led by Al-Khelaïfi, reportedly stated, « The clowns at A22 Sports will announce that they are launching their competition tomorrow, but no one will join them. »

In a more official statement released this Thursday, the European Club Association (ECA), presided over by Nasser al-Khelaïfi, wasted no time in renewing its support for UEFA after the ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union, which deems the Super League not illegal. European football is « more united than ever against the attempts of a few individuals to revive private tournament projects, » affirmed the ECA.
The PSG president, as the ECA president, also reacted. « They see this (the court’s decision) as a victory, but I don’t see it that way at all. This decision has nothing to do with the Super League. All stakeholders in Europe are united around a common goal… [The decision] will only make us better and stronger. There is a lot of exaggeration, and I understand them. There is nothing to stop the Super League, but we have changed a lot with UEFA. They talk about freedom, but it’s a closed competition. We have all the clubs with us except for 2. Football is a social contract, not a legal contract. We are more than ever united against the attempts of a few individuals to pursue personal goals. »
Then, PSG released its statement. « Paris Saint-Germain totally and completely rejects any so-called Super League project, as it has from day one and will always do. As a proud European institution, PSG supports the principles of the European sports model, the values of open competition and inclusion, and works with all recognized stakeholders in European football – especially with supporters and players, who are at the heart of football, » commented NAK in an official statement on Thursday.
On the other hand, Aleksander Ceferin, the president of UEFA, took a firmer stance: « We will not try to stop them. They can create whatever they want. I hope they will launch their high-level competition as soon as possible… with two clubs. Football is not for sale. I hope they will start their fantastic competition as soon as possible with two clubs. I saw today articles from English supporters calling it ‘The League of Zombies’… They can create whatever they want, » he declared.
